The Detroit Lions have decided to bring back cornerback Ross Weaver. Released last week to make room for cornerback Drew Coleman, the Lions re-signed Weaver today and released cornerback Dontrell Johnson.
The Lions have released CB Dontrell Johnson and signed CB Ross Weaver. Weaver was with the team on the practice squad last year.

Johnson was claimed off waivers by the Lions in June. The Lions released safety Alonzo Lawrence to make room for him, and now Johnson is the one being released to make room for a new signing.
Considering Weaver was only briefly off the team, my guess is that based on the first five days of practice, the coaches decided they should've let Johnson go to make room for Coleman. Since Weaver wasn't picked up by anybody, they were able to simply bring him back.
