Detroit Lions Rule Out 10 Players For Preseason Opener

New, comments

The Detroit Lions have announced that 10 players have been ruled out for Friday night's preseason game against the Cleveland Browns. The list is as follows:

  • RB Jahvid Best (PUP list; concussion)
  • RB Mikel Leshoure (hamstring)
  • WR Ryan Broyles (knee)
  • OT Jonathan Scott (knee)
  • DE Kyle Vanden Bosch (knee)
  • DE Cliff Avril (not an injury)
  • DT Sammie Hill (back)
  • CB Chris Greenwood (PUP list; lower abdomen)
  • S Don Carey (hamstring)
  • S Louis Delmas (knee)

On offense, there are no real surprises. Best is still on the PUP list and hasn't been cleared, so he obviously wasn't going to play against Cleveland. Leshoure also obviously wasn't going to play considering he hasn't practiced since the first weekend of training camp. Broyles has been dealing with some soreness in his knee, so the Lions aren't going to take any chances with him, and Scott is dealing with a knee injury of his own.

On defense, the most noteworthy player on the list is Avril. Although he's been back for almost a week now, he hasn't gone through a fully padded practice. As a result, the Lions aren't going to throw him into a game just yet.
