Last year's game between the Detroit Lions and San Francisco 49ers produced a lot of storylines that are carrying over to this year's game. The most notable one, as you are probably well aware, is the handshake storyline involving Jim Schwartz and Jim Harbaugh.
One storyline that has sort of been overlooked is what 49ers offensive tackle Anthony Davis posted on Twitter following last year's game. He took shots at the Lions and more specifically Cliff Avril on Twitter, and both Davis and Avril discussed the incident earlier this week. From the Detroit News:
"He doesn't like me, man. I don't know why," Davis told reporters in San Francisco Wednesday. "I don't need any new friends. It's cool. It's not about one person going against one guy."
"I don't even know the guy, so I can't not like him," Avril said. "We got into a little something there last year but I haven't even thought about that. I just want to go out, play a good game and try to get a win."
Davis can play dumb all he wants about why he doesn't think Avril likes him, but it's no secret that there is some bad blood there based on what happened last year. While Davis is right in saying that the game is about much more than a couple of players, you can bet this particular matchup will be one worth keeping an eye on Sunday night, especially if Avril gets any sacks on Alex Smith.
