Detroit Lions Waive Ricardo Silva

The Detroit Lions officially added cornerback Drayton Florence to their roster on Monday morning. In turn, they waived safety Ricardo Silva. It was a safe bet that a defensive back would be released to make room for Florence, and Silva ended up being the odd man out instead of cornerback Jonte Green.

With Silva being let go, the Lions still have six cornerbacks on their roster right now: Chris Houston, Bill Bentley, Florence, Jacob Lacey, Kevin Barnes and Green. Interestingly enough, only Houston was with the Lions last season. Detroit has completely revamped its cornerback position by signing Lacey and Florence, trading for Barnes and drafting Bentley and Green.

At safety, the Lions now have Louis Delmas, Erik Coleman, John Wendling and Amari Spievey left after Silva's departure. While the practice squad is currently full, it would be a surprise to me if Silva isn't added to it at some point as extra depth. Perhaps once he clears waivers the Lions will decide to sign him to it.
