The Detroit Lions held a brief practice on Monday as preparation for their Week 1 game against the St. Louis Rams began. The biggest news from the practice is that cornerback Chris Houston and safety Louis Delmas were the only two players who didn't take part in the session. Guys like Kevin Smith, Kyle Vanden Bosch, Bill Bentley and many of the other players who were out last week returned to the practice field.
While both Houston and Delmas remained out on Monday, the good news is that they were working out with trainers during practice, according to Chris McCosky. Hopefully this means that they will be able to take part in practice later this week and play on Sunday.
If Houston is unable to go on Sunday, it looks like Drayton Florence, who was just signed by the Lions, could be in the starting lineup. He took first-team reps during Monday's practice, according to Dave Birkett. What's more, Justin Durant said that he was "out there making calls" as if he had been with the team for a long time. I suppose that is one of the benefits of adding a veteran who has been around for a while.
