- The Lions' official site has video of Jim Schwartz explaining why the team decided to sign Florence.
- Schwartz isn't making a big deal out of facing his former boss, Jeff Fisher, this Sunday when the St. Louis Rams come to town.
- Kevin Smith said on Monday that he is 100 percent healthy. He will start for the Lions at running back for at least the first two weeks of the season if he remains healthy.
- Linebacker Bobby Carpenter was surprisingly released by the New England Patriots on Saturday.
- Pro Football Talk has a list of all the waiver claims that were made on Saturday. The Lions didn't make any claims and none of the players the Lions released were picked up.
