During the month of September, it can be really tough to make picks for NFL games simply because teams change over the course of the offseason. While we all have an expectation of how teams have changed, you never really know what will happen until the games begin. Last year, for example, who could've seen the San Francisco 49ers' sudden rise to prominence? Every year teams come out of nowhere and go from worst to first, and at the same time, a lot of teams surprise people by being much worse than anybody expected. It's the nature of the beast early on in the season, and it can make for some picks that come off as very, well, interesting by the end of the year.
Below is a look at my Week 1 picks, which are already off to a rough start thanks to Wednesday night's game.
Season record: 0-1
Dallas Cowboys at New York Giants (Incorrect)
Indianapolis Colts at Chicago Bears
Philadelphia Eagles at Cleveland Browns
New England Patriots at Tennessee Titans
Atlanta Falcons at Kansas City Chiefs
Jacksonville Jaguars at Minnesota Vikings
Washington Redskins at New Orleans Saints
Buffalo Bills at New York Jets
St. Louis Rams at Detroit Lions
Miami Dolphins at Houston Texans
San Francisco 49ers at Green Bay Packers
Seattle Seahawks at Arizona Cardinals
Carolina Panthers at Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Pittsburgh Steelers at Denver Broncos
Cincinnati Bengals at Baltimore Ravens
San Diego Chargers at Oakland Raiders
Non-Lions Game To Watch
I'm very interested to see what happens between the 49ers and Packers (4:25 p.m. ET, FOX). This is a classic battle between a great defense and a great offense, and it will be interesting to see what happens. These could very well end up being two of the top teams in the NFC in 2012, and it's a very intriguing Week 1 matchup. I like the Packers to win and give the 49ers a loss heading into their Week 2 matchup with the Lions.
