As expected, it didn't take former Detroit Lions wide receivers coach Shawn Jefferson much time to find a new job. After he was let go following the conclusion of the 2012 season, Jefferson needed only a few weeks to be hired by another team. Specifically, the Tennessee Titans hired him on Thursday as their new wide receivers coach.
It will be interesting to see how Jefferson performs down in Tennessee. I personally think it was a mistake for the Lions to let him go, although there have been rumblings that it may have been a mutual parting of ways because Jefferson had disagreements in philosophy with some of the other coaches. In any case, new wide receivers coach Tim Lappano, who formerly coached tight ends for the Lions, has some big shoes to fill.
Interestingly enough, the Titans also announced on Thursday that they hired Sylvester Croom as their running backs coach. Croom also once coached for the Lions, as he was their offensive coordinator from 1997-2000.
I'm hoping that the Lions will continue this back and forth with the Titans by hiring Alan Lowry, who was let go by Tennessee last week, as their special teams coordinator.
