Justin Durant hopes to re-sign with Lions

Linebacker Justin Durant is set to become a free agent this offseason, and he is hoping to re-sign with the Detroit Lions.

The Detroit Lions have some big decisions to make this offseason on defense with so many players set to become free agents. Especially at linebacker, decisions will have to be made about which players should be brought back. Starters DeAndre Levy and Justin Durant are both set to hit free agency, and given the Lions' salary cap issues, it's possible one or both may not be back.

If it was solely up to Durant, he would for sure be back with the Lions next season. He recently told the Free Press that he wants to re-sign, but he's not sure what will happen at this point.

"I want to sign," Durant said. "Am I sure? No. I don't know exactly what's going to happen. Free agency is a different type of process. You never know what's going to happen. I'm definitely just anxious to see.

"Hopefully we get something worked out to where I'm back in Detroit. I love the city, I love the fans, love playing there."

Durant led the Lions in solo tackles in 2012 and started 14 games. If the Lions do in fact re-sign him, he will be expected to continue starting at linebacker for them.
