Jerry Rice has high praise for Calvin Johnson

Jerry Rice recently had some high praise for Detroit Lions wide receiver Calvin Johnson, who broke his record last season.

Thanks to some comments made by Randy Moss, there has been a lot of talk at the Super Bowl this week about just which player is the greatest wide receiver of all time. Moss thinks he is, but it's safe to say the vast majority of the football world believes it's Jerry Rice.

Rice himself talked about this topic on numerous occasions this week, and he also talked about which wide receiver currently playing is the very best at the position. Considering his single-season receiving record fell to this man in 2012, it should come as no surprise that Rice went with the Detroit Lions' Calvin Johnson.

What will Johnson need to do to truly enter the best ever discussion? Aside from continuing to play at the level we've seen the last couple seasons, my feeling is the Lions will have to put together more than the rare playoff appearance. Barry Sanders was able to overcome the Lions' lack of success in the playoffs to become one of the greatest running backs of all time, but I think Johnson will have a tougher time doing that.

In any case, the fact that Johnson is receiving this kind of praise from the greatest receiver of all time says a lot.
