At the conclusion of last season, I came up with the idea for the POD Awards. Essentially, there would be polls for you guys to vote on various awards based on what happened during the Detroit Lions' season. The idea never got beyond the nominations stage, but this year I do want to make the POD Awards happen.
This time around, I first want to get your feedback on what categories we should even vote on. So far, I have the following in mind:
- Most Valuable Player
- Offensive Player of the Year
- Defensive Player of the Year
- Special Teams Player of the Year
- Breakout Player of the Year
- Rookie of the Year
- Game of the Year
- Most Outstanding Offseason Addition
- Most Valuable Backup
- Moment of the Year
Should we eliminate any of these categories? Do any other categories need to be added? Leave your thoughts in the comments. (And just so we're clear, these awards are based on positive things, so don't suggest "Bust of the Year" or something along those lines.)
Once we get a final list of categories settled, we will move on to the nominations stage. At that point, I will put up another post to gather your feedback on what the nominations should be for each category. After that, there will be separate posts with polls for each category. My plan is to leave each poll open for a week and then announce the winners in separate posts throughout the rest of the month. In essence, this will help us close out the 2012 season before we fully switch into free agency/draft mode.
