NFL power rankings, Week 5: Lions move into top 10

The Detroit Lions saw a big jump in NFL power rankings this week.

Rick Osentoski-USA TODAY Sports

What does an impressive win over a 3-0 team do for you in NFL power rankings? As the Detroit Lions found out on Tuesday, it results in a pretty big jump in the latest set of rankings. The Lions are 10th or better in four of the five power rankings we examine each week, and they saw a pretty substantial rise in all but one of the new rankings. Take a look:

The Green Bay Packers, Detroit's opponent this week, may be 1-2, but their rankings don't really reflect that. They are 12th (SB Nation), 12th (ESPN), 16th (CBS Sports), 13th (FOX Sports) and 13th (Pro Football Talk) this week. Those rankings seem pretty high for a 1-2 team, but I guess the assumption here is that the Packers are better than their record suggests. I suppose we'll find out on Sunday when they host the Lions.
