Matthew Stafford breaks Lions' all-time passing record

Another Detroit Lions record has fallen. After Calvin Johnson set the team record for total touchdown receptions last week, Matthew Stafford broke the team record for total passing yards on Sunday. By throwing for 362 yards in the Lions' loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers, Stafford moved ahead of Bobby Layne for the most passing yards in franchise history. Take a look:

1. Matthew Stafford: 16,005 yards
2. Bobby Layne: 15,710 yards
3. Scott Mitchell: 12,647 yards

It's really quite fitting that Stafford broke this record in Pittsburgh, especially on a 79-yard touchdown pass (his 100th career TD) to Johnson. The Lions traded Layne to the Steelers in 1958, and he may or may not have "cursed" them for the next 50 years. This alleged curse culminated with the 0-16 season in 2008, which led to the Lions drafting Stafford, who actually played at the same high school in Dallas as Layne. It all came full circle with Stafford breaking Layne's passing record on Sunday.

What record should Stafford set his sights on next? Layne holds the Lions' all-time record for passing touchdowns with 118. Right now, Stafford has 101 in his career. With six games left in the 2013 regular season, Stafford has a chance to jump Layne yet again in the record books.
