Lions release OT Barry Richardson

New, comments

The Detroit Lions have parted ways with Barry Richardson to make room for Austen Lane.

Offensive tackle Barry Richardson's stay with the Detroit Lions was a short one. He joined the Lions before their game against the Dallas Cowboys, and the team released him on Tuesday to make room for new defensive end Austen Lane.

Richardson was added to the roster before the Cowboys game to provide extra depth at offensive tackle. Riley Reiff and Corey Hilliard both suffered injuries in the previous game, and Jason Fox was trying to come back from an injury of his own. This left the Lions with only one truly healthy offensive tackle, so they added Richardson to the mix in case any additional injuries happened.

With the Lions off last week, Reiff, Hilliard and Fox had a chance to get healthy. Hilliard didn't practice on Tuesday, but Reiff and Fox both seem to be good to go. With Ziggy Ansah dealing with an ankle injury, the Lions needed extra depth at defensive end, so they made the decision to release Richardson and sign Lane.

The Lions also made a change to their practice squad on Tuesday.
