Lions notes: Jim Schwartz has support of his players

Lions notes looks at Jim Schwartz and what players have said about his job status, Brandon Pettigrew's injured ankle and much more.

  • Jim Schwartz is officially on the hot seat with the Detroit Lions falling out of first place in the NFC North and dropping to 7-7 on the season, and it seems like most fans want him to be fired. Lions players have a much different view of Schwartz, though. Case in point: Rashean Mathis put the blame on the players for the Lions' latest collapse, and Reggie Bush had similar thoughts about the situation. If nothing else, it doesn't seem that Schwartz has lost the locker room or anything like that.

  • At this point, it seems unlikely that Brandon Pettigrew is going to play this week considering he was on crutches on Wednesday.

  • Darius Slay's recent torn meniscus was not in the knee he injured in the lead-up to the NFL Draft; this time he tore his other meniscus.

  • Todd McShay has the Lions taking USC wide receiver Marqise Lee in his first 2014 NFL mock draft.

  • Kenny Albert, Daryl Johnston and Tony Siragusa are going to be the announcers for Sunday's game between the Lions and New York Giants.

  • For those of you wanting to check out some potential 2014 head-coaching candidates, take a look at these two lists.

  • The Dallas Cowboys have signed wide receiver Micheal Spurlock, who was released by the Lions earlier this month.

  • The NFL's contingency plans for a massive snowstorm the weekend of the Super Bowl are quite wild.
