After tight end Brandon Pettigrew was not able to practice on Wednesday, the Detroit Lions decided to bring his season to an end. He was placed on injured reserve on Christmas because of an ankle injury that he suffered against the Baltimore Ravens last week. There was no expectation that Pettigrew was going to play in Sunday's season finale, so he's now on injured reserve.
Interestingly, the Lions didn't add a tight end to take Pettigrew's spot on the roster. Instead, they brought back wide receiver Micheal Spurlock by claiming him off waivers. He was released by the Lions earlier this month, and he later spent some time with the Dallas Cowboys. Dallas just released him on Tuesday to make room for Jon Kitna (yes, that Jon Kitna).
