Lions notes: Jim Schwartz still has support of his players

Lions notes looks at Jim Schwartz, players who tried out for the team this week and more.

Leon Halip
  • It seems Detroit Lions players really don't want Jim Schwartz to be fired. In this case, actions speak louder than words, and the ship has sailed on players lobbying for Schwartz to not be fired. If the players had performed better down the stretch, Schwartz's job status wouldn't even be a topic of concern at this point. As far as I'm concerned, it's too late to save his job.

  • Josh Katzenstein reports that Schwartz has not brought up his job status in meetings with players.

  • Aaron Wilson reports that the Lions worked out wide receivers Armanti Edwards, DeMarco Sampson and LaQuan Williams this week. Also, they worked out Carlin Isles, who is apparently the world's fastest rugby player.

  • Calvin Johnson declined to comment on Deadspin's report that he has been playing with a partially torn PCL since October.

  • As noted by Kyle Meinke, the Lions have now had seven reported concussions this season. The Cincinnati Bengals lead the NFL with nine concussions in 2013.
