Lions-Vikings inactives: Calvin Johnson out for season finale

The Detroit Lions did something sensible for a change by making Calvin Johnson inactive for Sunday's game.

Tim Fuller-USA TODAY Sports

Common sense has prevailed when it comes to the status of Detroit Lions wide receiver Calvin Johnson. He has been declared inactive for Sunday's game against the Minnesota Vikings, meaning his season is officially over. Johnson was actually only ruled questionable on Friday despite not practicing all week, but the Lions ultimately decided to not risk more damage to his knee by playing him in a meaningless game.

Speaking of his knee injury, Adam Schefter reported on Sunday morning that surgery may be an option to repair it after all:

Schwartz recently told reporters that Johnson's injury wasn't going to require surgery, but he doesn't exactly have a track record of providing accurate injury information. In other words, expect Johnson to have surgery at some point in the offseason.

Here's the full list of inactives for the Lions:

QB Kellen Moore
WR Calvin Johnson
OT LaAdrian Waddle
OG Dylan Gandy
CB Bill Bentley
CB Jonte Green
CB Chris Houston

And here's the Vikings' list of inactives:

QB Josh Freeman
RB Toby Gerhart
RB Adrian Peterson
WR Rodney Smith
OT Mike Remmers
DT Letroy Guion
CB Xavier Rhodes
