Scott Linehan, Tim Lappano let go by Lions

In addition to firing Jim Schwartz, the Detroit Lions have parted ways with Scott Linehan and Tim Lappano.

It's not completely clear at this time what the status is for many members of the Detroit Lions coaching staff. With head coach Jim Schwartz being fired, it's a good bet that most of his assistants will be let go, and it's an even better bet that his coordinators will be fired as well. For now, though, there's no official news on the status of the Lions' other coaches.

Unofficially, however, it looks as though offensive coordinator Scott Linehan has been let go. Dave Birkett reports that "much of the offensive staff" is out as well, but offensive line coach Jeremiah Washburn "should be retained," according to Tim Twentyman. This makes sense considering how outstanding the O-line was under Washburn's coaching in 2013.

As for the defensive staff, there's no reason to expect that Gunther Cunningham will be retained. It's likely that most or all of the Lions' defensive assistants will be let go as well, but again, nothing is official yet.

My best guess is that questions about the future of the rest of this coaching staff will be answered during the Lions' 2 p.m. ET press conference with Martin Mayhew and Tom Lewand.

UPDATE: Officially, the Lions have let Linehan and wide receivers coach Tim Lappano go. The rest of the Lions' assistants are under contract with the team for now.
