Do Lions have most attractive coaching vacancy in NFL?

The Detroit Lions may very well have the most attractive head coaching vacancy in all of the NFL.

Charles LeClaire-USA TODAY Sport

As it stands right now, six NFL teams are looking for a new head coach: the Detroit Lions, Houston Texans, Cleveland Browns, Minnesota Vikings, Washington Redskins and Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Of these six openings, which is the most attractive to potential candidates? I suppose it depends on what each individual candidate values in a head coaching position, but many people think the Lions' job is at the top of the list.

Shortly after Jim Schwartz was fired, USA Today updated its rankings for the top open coaching jobs and put the Lions at No. 1 because so much talent is already on their roster. This goes along with what Jason La Canfora and Judy Battista said following Schwartz's firing.

The Lions themselves are well aware of how attractive their job opening is based on what team president Tom Lewand said during a press conference on Monday. In fact, Lewand made it known that the Lions have already received quite a few calls from people expressing interest in the job.

This isn't going to be a situation where the Lions have a limited list of candidates because they're coming off a 0-16 season or anything like that. When it comes to open head coaching jobs in the NFL, the Lions are either at or near the very top of the list. A big part of that is the fact that their roster is so loaded with talent, and a big part of that is the notion that ownership has traditionally taken a patient approach. Many of the key pieces are already in place, and this isn't a situation where a coach is likely going to have to worry about being fired after only one season.

Those are just some of the factors making the Lions' head coaching vacancy so intriguing to potential candidates.
