The Reggie Bush to the Detroit Lions bandwagon isn't slowing down one bit. In fact, it seems to be growing, and at the very least it includes one player already on the Lions. Wide receiver Nate Burleson made it known on NFL AM on Monday morning that he wants Bush to join the Lions when free agency officially opens next month. Via the Free Press, here's a look at Burleson's pitch to Bush:
"I’m going to just say this, 'Reggie Bush, you already took your talents to South Beach, come on to Detroit,'" Burleson said. "I know it’s not as sunny, and it might not be the same type of glitz and glamor, but you can do wonders for us."
Burleson also talked up Bush's skills and mentioned that he's "an elite running back." Burleson seems to be fully on board with the idea of adding Bush to the offense because the Lions lack a home-run threat with Jahvid Best not being cleared. Bush would come in and fill that role, and he could also contribute on special teams.
Simply from a fit standpoint, Bush seems to be a no-brainer for the Lions. It seems to be a no-brainer for Bush as well. He would be joining a team that has already established his role, and he would be playing in an offense that already knows how to utilize his talents.
The part where the fit may not be so good is money. It's unclear what Bush is hoping to get, and it's unclear what the Lions will be willing to pay to fill this need in free agency. That will probably end up being the deciding factor, as I don't expect Bush to take less money to play for the Lions. It's still too early to tell what the market will look like for him, though.
In any case, between Burleson's comments and the fact that Matthew Stafford is now following Bush on Twitter, it looks like this is far from the last time we will hear about the possibility of him signing with the Lions.
