2013 NFL Draft: Lions meet with Dion Sims, Lane Johnson

As the NFL Combine rolls on, more names of players who have met with the Detroit Lions will come out. Case in point: Michigan State tight end Dion Sims and Oklahoma offensive tackle Lane Johnson both had meetings with the Lions, according to various reports that came out on Friday afternoon.

Sims, who decided to leave Michigan State early to enter the NFL Draft, thought his meeting with the Lions went well, according to Dave Birkett. Sims measured 6-foot-4 7/8 and weighed 262 pounds at the combine, and he certainly doesn't lack confidence, as evidenced by his comments on Friday.

Sims also said: "I’m the best blocking tight end, I’m the best receiving tight end, I’m the best all-around tight end" in the draft

The rankings disagree with Sims' assessment, as he isn't expected to be a first-round pick or anything like that. Because of that, he is somebody the Lions could potentially look at later on in the draft. Brandon Pettigrew and Tony Scheffler are both returning for the Lions, but adding a third tight end like Sims instead of re-signing Will Heller is something they may consider.

As for Johnson, he did pretty well at the Senior Bowl for the Lions-coached South team. I have a tough time seeing the Lions drafting an offensive tackle unless it's with the No. 5 overall pick, and I can't see Johnson lasting beyond the first round. I suppose meeting with guys like him is all part of the process of getting to know potential picks, though.
