2014 Super Bowl odds: Where do Lions check in for next year?

Now that the season is over, it's time to start looking ahead to the 2014 Super Bowl. Which team is favored to win it all? Let's look at the odds.

USA TODAY Sports

The 2012-13 season may have just ended, but for fans of most NFL teams, sights have been set on the 2013-14 season for some time now. With the 2013 Super Bowl in the books, we can really start to look ahead to what next season may bring to the table.

While it is far too early to really start forecasting which teams will be in the Super Bowl next year, odds are already out for the 2014 edition of the game (via RJ Bell). It should come as no surprise that the favorites for Super Bowl 48 consist of teams that were in the hunt for a title this year. The New England Patriots are the top favorite at 7/1, and the San Francisco 49ers (8/1), Denver Broncos (8/1) and Green Bay Packers (10/1) are just behind. The champion Baltimore Ravens round out the top five at 14/1.

Where do the Detroit Lions fit into the picture for next season? They are currently at 40/1 with the Minnesota Vikings, San Diego Chargers and Indianapolis Colts. This is behind the Chicago Bears, which are listed at 30/1 odds.

What happens to the Lions' odds over the course of the offseason will obviously depend on what they do in free agency and the draft. The Lions have a lot of work to do given how poorly the 2012 season went, and for those odds to go up, they need to have a good offseason.
