Lions notes: Justin Durant hopes to stay in Detroit

Lions notes looks at Justin Durant, Jim Schwartz, Gosder Cherilus and more.

Jeff Hanisch-USA TODAY Sports
  • Linebacker Justin Durant made it known again on Friday that he wants to re-sign with the Detroit Lions. He said in an interview with SiriusXM NFL Radio that his agent has "talked to them a little bit and it sounded pretty good." Durant will become a free agent on March 12 if a new deal isn't worked out before then.
  • Jim Schwartz said last week at the NFL Combine that offensive tackle Jeff Backus and kicker Jason Hanson have been working out at the Lions' facility. Neither has announced a decision about retirement or coming back, but I'd expect both players to return.
  • Schwartz thinks former assistant and current St. Louis Rams defensive coordinator Tim Walton is going to be a head coach in a couple years.
  • Schwartz was careful to avoid tampering when asked about running back Reggie Bush last week:
  • Warren Sapp is going to be the keynote speaker at Martin Mayhew's coaches clinic in June. I hope nobody asks him about Ndamukong Suh.
  • Offensive tackle Gosder Cherilus reportedly went to Germany last year to get an "alternative treatment" on his knee.
  • Mike Mayock's post-combine 2013 NFL Draft rankings are out.
  • NFL.com has a look at this year's pro day schedule.
