Lions free agency: Louis Delmas to visit Rams; Sammie Hill headed to Titans?

A pair of Detroit Lions free agents are reportedly ready to visit other teams.

Andrew Weber-US PRESSWIRE

It's looking more and more like the Detroit Lions aren't going to be able to re-sign defensive tackle Sammie Hill and safety Louis Delmas, as both players are reportedly scheduling visits with other teams. Delmas is going to meet with the St. Louis Rams, according to Pro Football Talk, while Hill is expected to visit the Tennessee Titans, according to The Tennessean's Jim Wyatt.

Delmas was in Michigan last week to take a physical with the Lions. He was reportedly offered a contract by the Lions, but he decided to test free agency instead. He didn't sound all that pleased with the offer, and now it's possible he could reunite with former Lions defensive backs coach and current Rams defensive coordinator Tim Walton in St. Louis.

As for Hill, he isn't expected to be back. At this point in his career, Hill probably wants more of a chance to start, and given that the Lions have Ndamukong Suh and Nick Fairley, his chances aren't very good in Detroit. The Titans probably will be able to offer more money and playing time, so it won't come as a surprise if he ends up signing with them.

If Delmas and Hill do depart, the Lions will have to look elsewhere for depth at safety and defensive tackle. The Lions already seem to be making a move to replace Delmas with Glover Quin visiting, but their plans are unclear at defensive tackle. Adam Caplan reported earlier that the Lions have been "shopping for a DT all week," so they are definitely on the lookout for help at this particular position.
