Reggie Bush's contract worth $16 million over four years

Running back Reggie Bush's four-year deal with the Detroit Lions is worth $16 million.

Joel Auerbach

When word broke that the Detroit Lions signed running back Reggie Bush to a four-year deal, the big question was this: What does his contract look like? While there was a lot of excitement over the signing, there was also some concern over the possibility that the Lions might have overpaid for Bush. It's safe to say that didn't happen, though.

That's a pretty nice deal for the Lions, especially the fact that Bush is only going to count $2 million against the cap this year. The big concern was that Bush might end up with more than $5 million a season if he landed with the Lions, but an average of $4 million a year is an ideal amount in my mind.

I'm still not quite sure how the Lions are going to fit all of these deals under this year's cap, but they have shown that space can be created pretty easily. While the Lions may have less space down the road as a result of restructuring deals, I'd say it's worth it given what they have accomplished so far on Wednesday.

UPDATE: Here's the year-by-year breakdown of Bush's deal:
