Safety Louis Delmas isn't the only player the Detroit Lions re-signed on Friday. They also re-signed offensive guard/center Dylan Gandy, as first reported by Adam Caplan. Tim Twentyman reports that Gandy's deal is for one year.
Gandy has been with the Lions since 2009. He has been active for all but one game in his four years with the Lions, as he has been one of their main backups at offensive guard and center. He can play both positions, and that kind of versatility is important on game day.
With Gandy returning, the Lions now have five interior offensive linemen under contract. Offensive guards Rob Sims, Bill Nagy and Rodney Austin are all under contract through 2014, while center Dominic Raiola and Gandy are under contract through 2013.
Gandy doesn't figure to be in the mix for the starting right guard job, and he probably won't challenge Raiola for the starting center job. However, Gandy will once again be in the mix to make the 53-man roster thanks to his value as a backup.
