There hasn't been much news on free-agent linebacker Justin Durant this week. Durant has said in the past that he wants to re-sign with the Detroit Lions, but nothing has really developed on that front just yet. The Lions' focus has been on other free agents, putting Durant's future a bit up in the air.
While the Lions may not be showing interest in re-signing Durant right now, he has reportedly drawn interest from the New York Giants. According to The Star-Ledger's Jenny Vrentas, Durant is one of the linebackers the Giants have shown interest in.
The Giants have "at least some interest" in four-year Bengals starter Rey Maualuga, according to ESPN. They've also expressed interest in Justin Durant, who started the past two seasons for the Lions, according to a person with knowledge of the communication between the sides.
With the Lions already re-signing linebacker DeAndre Levy, it's entirely possible that they have decided to not bring back Durant. Ashlee Palmer, Tahir Whitehead and Travis Lewis could all compete to fill the vacant starting spot at outside linebacker, and it's also possible that the Lions could draft another linebacker. The Lions may simply decide to move forward without adding any additional linebackers during free agency, making Durant the odd man out.
