Lions to host Brandon Moore for visit, according to report

The Detroit Lions are reportedly planning to bring in free-agent offensive guard Brandon Moore for a visit.

With the initial wave of free agency behind us, there hasn't been much news involving the Detroit Lions this week. More than anything, the Lions are focused on re-signing some of their own free agents and hunting for bargains, as general manager Martin Mayhew said earlier in the week.

I don't know if he would necessarily fit the bargain description, but free-agent offensive guard Brandon Moore is scheduled to visit the Lions, according to the New York Daily News' Manish Mehta. Moore just finished a visit with the Miami Dolphins, and he reportedly has a visit lined up with the Dallas Cowboys as well.

Moore, 32, has been in the NFL since 2003. He's spent his entire career with the New York Jets, and he's been a full-time starter for them going back to 2004. From 2005-2012, Moore started every single game for the Jets. That's a Jeff Backus-like streak, and it shows that Moore is a durable player.

Considering the Lions don't have a starting right guard after releasing Stephen Peterman, Moore is someone who would be able to come in for a year or two and fill that vacancy. And if the Lions still want to give younger guys like Bill Nagy, Rodney Austin or even Riley Reiff a shot at starting at right guard, I suppose Moore could give the Lions a fallback option in training camp if nobody really steps it up.

(And yes, Moore was the butt in the "butt fumble.")
