Vaughn Martin agrees to deal with Miami Dolphins

The Miami Dolphins have agreed to a deal with defensive tackle Vaughn Martin, who was reportedly drawing some interest from the Detroit Lions.

Last week, it was reported that the Detroit Lions were one of several teams expressing interest in free-agent defensive tackle Vaughn Martin. The Philadelphia Eagles, New Orleans Saints and New England Patriots were also reportedly interested in Martin, as were the San Diego Chargers, his original team.

On Thursday, Martin agreed to a deal with the Miami Dolphins. Despite Miami not even being mentioned as a possibility last week, Martin visited the Dolphins earlier this week and got a deal done.

What this means for the Lions is that their search for depth at defensive tackle behind Ndamukong Suh and Nick Fairley will have to go in another direction. You would think the Lions will add a free-agent defensive tackle at some point, although they may wait until after the 2013 NFL Draft.

Speaking of the draft, there's a very good chance the Lions could decide to take a defensive tackle this year. It's highly unlikely they will spend an early pick on a defensive tackle, but I could certainly see them selecting one on the final day of the draft.
