With the 44th pick in Pride Of Detroit's 2013 NFL mock draft, the Carolina Panthers select USC wide receiver Robert Woods. Cram9030 is serving as the Panthers' general manager, and his reasoning for the pick is below.
The Panthers once again get stuck in a tough position where highly rated players at positions of need go just before their pick in Keenan Allen and Justin Hunter. Just like in the first round, there is another player at the same position available, and in this case it is Robert Woods. Steve Smith is still playing well, and while Brandon LaFell has been playing better of late, he does not look like a No. 1 receiver in waiting. Woods was overshadowed last year by Marquise Lee but put up good numbers throughout his career at USC. He is never going to be a burner but has shown an ability to get open and run good routes.
While the Panthers need some serious help in the secondary, the run on safeties just has not left one worth taking, and I am not in love with the corners left on the board. I gave serious consideration to Justin Pugh and Kyle Long for the guard or offensive tackle position because Byron Bell and Amini Silatolu were not amazing. At the end Bell was passable and you don't draft a guard in the second round just to give up on him the next year.
