2013 NFL mock draft: Texans select Darius Slay

The Houston Texans take Darius Slay with the 57th pick of the 2013 POD Community Mock Draft.

Spruce Derden-US PRESSWIRE

With the 57th pick in Pride Of Detroit's 2013 NFL mock draft, the Houston Texans select Mississippi State cornerback Darius Slay. Rip61 is serving as the Texans' general manager, and his reasoning for the pick is below.

I was looking for an impact player for my team. The first area I looked at was NT but did not see one for the second round. I could also use a third, or second, outside receiver. I drafted DeAndre Hopkins in the first round to be my second. I also looked at LB for the rotation. I could also use an upgrade at RT and RG.

I chose Darius Slay for a fifth CB on the roster to develop. He could be our answer in the nickel defense. I did give serious consideration to taking a rotational LB, DE, WR, QB and a starter at TE.

What Slay has is talent to go to this level. His size is 6'0" and 192 lbs. with nice arm length. He also ran a 4.36 40 at the combine. So he has talent and size to play at this level. He would work great as a developmental person and a guy who replaces a future FA.
