The Detroit Lions followed up their first-round pick of defensive end Ezekiel Ansah by going defense again in the second round. This time, they went with a cornerback, and their pick was Mississippi State's Darius Slay.
Coming into this draft, I felt that certain analysts were making too much of the Lions' need for cornerback help considering they re-signed Chris Houston and drafted three corners last year. I still feel that way, but with the Lions taking the best player available on their board, they ended up with a cornerback in the second round of this year's draft.
I suppose addressing the secondary is never a bad thing, but I would have liked to have seen the Lions go with an offensive player in the second round. I really liked the wide receivers that were available, but Tennessee taking Justin Hunter a couple picks earlier may have changed the Lions' plans.
