Wide receiver Darrius Heyward-Bey picked the Indianapolis Colts over the Detroit Lions on Monday night. He was down to those two teams after visiting both of them last week, and he ultimately decided to sign a one-year deal with the Colts.
On Tuesday, Heyward-Bey explained his decision to sign with the Colts in a conference call with reporters. From Pro Football Talk:
"At the end, I just had to follow my heart and I just felt comfortable there," Heyward-Bey told reporters during an introductory conference call. "I just felt comfortable. I mean my whole life I’ve followed my heart on decisions and I’ve made tough decisions in my life before. So in this case I kind of did the same thing. I took the information in front of me when it came to the Colts and other things and in the end my heart told me to take it."
Heyward-Bey also said that Andrew Luck is "the best young quarterback out there," which played a role in his decision, as did getting to play with Reggie Wayne. Last week after his visit with the Lions, Heyward-Bey talked up the idea of playing with Matthew Stafford, but clearly he concluded that Indy is the better option for him.
