2013 NFL mock draft: Bills select Geno Smith

The Buffalo Bills take Geno Smith with the eighth pick of the 2013 POD Community Mock Draft.

USA TODAY Sports

With the eighth pick in Pride Of Detroit's 2013 NFL mock draft, the Buffalo Bills select West Virginia quarterback Geno Smith. CLF is serving as the Bills' general manager, and his reasoning for the pick is below.

Hell with spring, it's still Christmas in Buffalo! Without having to move up and spend more draft picks, Buffalo now has its franchise QB of the future, Geno Smith. Will Geno start from day one? Let's look back to what Buffalo's new OC said about the new offense.

"We want to have an offense that's very multiple, but also could have the proper teaching fundamentals that we wanted so the guys could understand what we want," he said. "It's how you talk to the players and how you communicate it. If you can do that and have a good knowledge of what you're trying to get done that's when you have a chance to get some things done out on the field."

The Bills' new offense will be designed for Smith to quickly learn and execute. Buffalo's coaches from Syracuse know Smith inside and out, having whooped West Virginia in the Pinstripe Bowl last year, even though Smith had a decent game. Smith has the speed to move outside the pocket, the accuracy and the experience of a short-throwing attack. Also, he has the brains to learn the "multiple" offense the Bills are creating. Don't believe the misinformation about talent or football IQ, Smith is the real deal and the perfect QB for the future of the Bills.
