Free-agent wide receiver Josh Cribbs is in town for his visit with the Detroit Lions, according to Pro Football Talk's Mike Florio. Lions head coach Jim Schwartz actually confirmed the visit on Sunday, but an exact timetable for it was unknown. Now we do know that Cribbs is already in town, meaning his visit is likely taking place right now.
Florio also reports that, as of now, Cribbs is expected to sign with the Lions, Oakland Raiders, New York Giants or New York Jets. He visited the Raiders, Giants and Jets last week, so the Lions should be his final stop before he decides on a new team.
What exactly do the Lions have to offer Cribbs? For starters, the kick and punt return jobs are wide open. Cribbs would be expected to take over both roles if he signs with the Lions. On offense, Cribbs could see playing time as a wide receiver, and he would get to line up alongside Calvin Johnson. He could also theoretically be used out of the backfield with someone like Reggie Bush if the Lions really wanted to get creative.
Given that Cribbs is taking what is expected to be his final visit, I would imagine that a decision on where he will sign will be made sometime this week.
