Josh Cribbs visits Lions, will make decision soon

Free-agent wide receiver Josh Cribbs is going to make a decision about his future in the next couple days after visiting the Detroit Lions on Monday.

The Detroit Lions hosted free-agent wide receiver Josh Cribbs for a visit on Monday. This was Cribbs' fourth visit in a week, as he met with the Oakland Raiders, New York Jets and New York Giants last week. Those three teams, along with the Lions, are believed to be the finalists for Cribbs' services, and he is planning to make a decision after taking a couple days to think things over.

Just because the Lions are high on Cribbs' list doesn't mean he is going to sign with them. It's rare for players to say anything that isn't positive right after a visit, and considering there are three other teams in the mix, Cribbs could easily end up signing elsewhere.

What is working in the Lions' favor is that they have Matthew Stafford. Cribbs told Tim Twentyman that he wants to play for a team with a "solid" quarterback, and Stafford certainly fits that description. The Giants' Eli Manning also fits that description, but the quarterback situations for the Jets and Raiders (even though they did add Matt Flynn) are far from settled.

Here's more of what Cribbs told Twentyman after his visit:

The Lions are certainly missing a piece of the puzzle on special teams, and Cribbs would be a nice upgrade on the return units. I suppose he would also be a nice puzzle piece to have on offense to go along with Calvin Johnson, Reggie Bush and some of the other weapons surrounding Stafford.
