NFL names locations for Super Bowl 50, 51

The NFL has named the locations for the 50th and 51st Super Bowls.

On Tuesday at the NFL owners meetings in Boston, the locations of Super Bowl L (50) and Super Bowl LI (51) were awarded. As expected, the Bay Area will host Super Bowl L in 2016 and Houston will host Super Bowl LI in 2017.

The 2016 Super Bowl will be played at Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara. This is the new home of the San Francisco 49ers, and it is set to open in 2014. The fact that it is a new stadium had a lot to do with the Bay Area landing Super Bowl L.

A year later, in 2017, the Super Bowl will return to Reliant Stadium in Houston for the first time since 2004. Houston, like the Bay Area host committee, defeated South Florida's bid to host another Super Bowl.

Here's a rundown of the next four Super Bowl locations:

2014: MetLife Stadium, East Rutherford, NJ
2015: University of Phoenix Stadium, Glendale, AZ
2016: Levi's Stadium, Santa Clara, CA
2017: Reliant Stadium, Houston, TX
