Nick Fairley certainly isn't lacking confidence. Last month, after saying that the Detroit Lions are going to the Super Bowl, Fairley proclaimed that the Lions have the best defensive tackle tandem in all of the NFL. Between him and Ndamukong Suh, Fairley thinks that they are "going to give guys trouble."
This week, Suh, the other defensive tackle in this tandem, was asked about Fairley's comments. While he wasn't ready to make any proclamations of his own, he embraced Fairley's comments by saying that "it's a great challenge." He is ready to go out and prove that the Lions could have the best defensive tackle tandem in the NFL, even with them having a target on their back because of what Fairley said. From the Lions' official site:
"It's a great challenge and it's definitely something that I'm up for," Suh said after an organized team activity practice Wednesday. "It's something that he felt in his heart we can (be) and I'm going to be there to work alongside of him.
"We've in essence put a target on our back and that's fine. I've had a target on my back since I was a rookie, so I'm excited for it."
Suh is certainly no stranger to having a target on his back. Whether it is opponents, officials, the media or the league in general, Suh has seemingly had a target on his back, as he said, since he first entered the league. That will probably always be the case, but at least he's got Fairley alongside him to combat his opponents, at least on the field, anyway.
