The final stretch of the offseason before training camp is nearing. This week, the Detroit Lions are set to close out one aspect of their offseason training program by holding their final four organized team activities of the year. The Lions have already had six OTAs, and the last four on the schedule are set for Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday this week.
Once the Lions wrap up their OTAs, they will get the weekend off and return next Monday for the Lions/Kevin VanDam Charity Fishing Tournament. Then, from Tuesday through Thursday, the Lions will hold their mandatory minicamp. All players are required to attend this three-day event, which marks the end of their offseason training program. Here's the full schedule of on-field activities:
OTAs
June 3-4
June 6-7
Minicamp
June 11-13
After the Lions finish their minicamp, the team will break until training camp begins at the end of July. The month or so vacation will serve as the last real time off from football for players and coaches until after the 2013 season. Once the team returns for training camp, they will quickly transition into the preseason and regular season. Then, football will be the main focus for everyone through the fall and into the winter.
