The Detroit Lions' busy week of moves continued on Tuesday afternoon with the team signing wide receiver Matt Willis, according to Tim Twentyman. A corresponding move regarding who was released to make room for Willis has not yet been announced.
Willis joins the Lions after spending parts of the last four seasons with the Denver Broncos. He was active for 15 games last season and 16 games in 2011. Although he caught 18 passes for 267 yards and a touchdown in 2011, he has mainly been a special teams player in the NFL, and I'd imagine that's the role the Lions envision him filling in Detroit.
As of right now, the Lions have 14 wide receivers on their roster with the addition of Willis. Most of these guys are really just camp bodies, although I suppose someone like Willis could make the team with a strong showing on special teams in training camp and the preseason.
Perhaps the most noteworthy aspect of this signing is that Willis once appeared on American Ninja Warrior. Take a look:
I would love to see other Lions players go through that course, although I think Calvin Johnson would easily record the best time.
