Pride Of Detroit is counting down the top 10 Detroit Lions players of 2013, as voted on by readers of the site. 1,051 ballots were submitted, and next up is a look at the No. 7 player on the list.
No. 7 - CB Chris Houston - 2,248 points (1 first-place vote)
Cornerback Chris Houston is No. 7 on the Top 10 Lions of 2013 despite receiving only one first-place vote and zero second-place votes. Houston actually appeared on 587 of the 1,051 ballots, and he racked up quite a few seventh-place (116) and eighth-place (111) votes. This allowed him to come in seventh -- up from 11th last year -- despite his lack of votes at the top of the list.
Houston is entering his fourth season with the Lions. Last year, Houston recorded 56 tackles, 11 passes defended, 2 interceptions and 2 forced fumbles for the Lions. This came after a very successful 2011 season, which saw him pick off 5 passes and score 2 touchdowns.
This offseason, Houston got a new five-year deal with the Lions worth $25 million. One of the Lions' top priorities was making sure Houston stayed in Detroit, and re-signing him was very important for them.
Going into 2013, Houston remains the top cornerback on a depth chart filled with young talent. He will be expected to continue to be the Lions' No. 1 cornerback for the foreseeable future.
