It turns out that Laurent Robinson isn't the only free-agent wide receiver set to work out for the Detroit Lions. According to Jason La Canfora, the Lions are also going to bring in Steve Breaston and Chaz Schilens for a workout at some point this week.
Breaston, who attended college at Michigan, has played for the Arizona Cardinals and Kansas City Chiefs. He spent the previous two seasons in Kansas City, and he didn't have a very good 2012 season. Breaston caught only 7 passes for 74 yards last year, but he did have 61 catches for 785 yards and 2 touchdowns in 2011. When he was in Arizona, his numbers were consistently good from 2008-10.
Schilens was with the New York Jets in 2012. He had 28 catches for 289 yards and 2 touchdowns. Before joining the Jets, he spent four seasons in Oakland, but his numbers were never all that impressive.
It's unclear at this time if the Lions have plans to sign somebody from this workout or if this is merely them doing their due diligence on some free agents in case an injury happens. I suppose it will ultimately depend on if one of these wide receivers impresses the Lions enough during the workout to warrant a contract offer.
