Lions training camp injury update: Louis Delmas misses practice, as expected

Detroit Lions safety Louis Delmas was among the players sidelined on Day 2 of training camp.

Are you ready for your daily Louis Delmas injury update? Good, because here it is: Delmas missed Saturday's practice as Detroit Lions training camp rolled on. This didn't come as a surprise, as Lions head coach Jim Schwartz said on Friday that Delmas probably would get a day off. He should be back on Sunday when the Lions practice in full pads, though.

In non-Delmas injury news, wide receiver Devin Thomas, center Leroy Harris and defensive end Ronnell Lewis all missed Saturday's practice. Thomas and Harris remain on the PUP list, while Lewis remains on the NFI list. Until they are activated, they can't practice.

Linebacker Carmen Messina also missed practice on Saturday. It's not clear what kept him out, and it's not clear if his injury is something minor or something serious.

How about some news about guys who did practice on Saturday? Let's start with tight end Joseph Fauria and defensive end Ziggy Ansah. Fauria got banged up a bit on Friday while making a tough catch in the end zone, and Ansah hurt his ankle when he got stepped on during a drill. Neither injury was believed to be serious, and that was confirmed on Saturday with both players practicing.

On Sunday, we'll have to see if cornerback Ron Bartell is able to practice, as he hurt his shoulder on Saturday. Justin Rogers reports that Bartell suffered the injury while trying to break up a pass. Bartell left practice to get his shoulder iced, and Schwartz provided the following update after the session concluded:

Bartell is competing to be the Lions' starting right cornerback, and he was replaced by Darius Slay after exiting because of the injury.
