News and notes on the offense, defense and special teams from the third day of Detroit Lions training camp.

Tim Fuller-USA TODAY Sports

Day 3 of Detroit Lions training camp was held on Sunday morning in Allen Park. The Lions practiced in full pads for the first time this year, and because of new NFL rules, this meant that players wore thigh and knee pads.

Here's a look at various notes from the practice:

Offense

  • The Lions had Dylan Gandy taking first-team reps at right guard on Sunday. Larry Warford was working as the second-team offensive guard.

  • Corey Hilliard was once again working as the first-team offensive tackle.

  • Dave Birkett tweeted a Vine of the Lions' running backs and wide receivers going through drills:
  • Per Birkett, Mikel Leshoure worked as the second running back in the Lions' rotation on Sunday. On the first two days of practice, Joique Bell apparently got the majority of the No. 2 reps.

  • According to Chris McCosky, Calvin Johnson beat Chris Houston and Glover Quin on a 60-yard pass on Sunday.

  • The Lions' offensive line vs. defensive line drill produced a lot of tweets. Here's a rundown of some of the offense-focused ones:

Defense

  • Louis Delmas and Quin finally got a chance to line up next to each other during a drill on Sunday, according to Tim Twentyman.

  • Tahir Whitehead got his shot at being the first-team left outside linebacker on Sunday.

  • Chris Greenwood got some praise for his coverage of Mike Thomas during a drill.
  • Here are some defensive line-oriented tweets from the OL vs. DL drill:
  • Here's more praise for Ziggy Ansah:

Special teams

  • Per McCosky, Blake Clingan had a punt blocked by Alex Elkins and was flipped over in the process.
