Lions notes: Havard Rugland, Theo Riddick, more

Lions notes looks at Havard Rugland, Theo Riddick and much more.

  • This is the downside of playing a team in the preseason that you will see again in the regular season:
  • Reggie Bush compared Havard Rugland to Tim Tebow simply in terms of the media attention the Norwegian kicker is getting. Something tells me there won't be TV shows on ESPN dedicated to debating if Rugland deserves a spot on the Detroit Lions' roster.

  • It appears as though the Lions are planning to give Theo Riddick a chance to return kicks. If he's able to perform on the kick return unit, he will bolster his chances of making the 53-man roster.

  • Cody Wilson's chances of making the team are low, but he may be positioning himself for a shot at the practice squad.

  • Lions players had to make some adjustments to the new FieldTurf at Ford Field last week in their game against the New York Jets since it really hasn't been broken in yet.

  • The Lions ranked 10th in the NFL with 68 total offensive snaps in their first preseason game.

  • Lions linebackers coach Matt Burke recently broke down the position battle at LOLB.

  • Grantland's Bill Barnwell posted his Lions preview on Wednesday.
