Lions at Browns: Calvin Johnson, five others out for Detroit

Six Detroit Lions players have been ruled out for Thursday night's game.

Andrew Weber-USA TODAY Sports

The Detroit Lions will be without six players on Thursday night when they take on the Cleveland Browns, and one of those players is wide receiver Calvin Johnson. He is set to miss Thursday's game because of a knee contusion, which kept him out of practice earlier in the week. This appears to be one of those classic "no sense in playing him in the preseason" kind of injuries, so Megatron will be out against the Browns.

Also out on Thursday night are the following five players:

TE Matt Veldman
CB Jonte Green
CB Chris Greenwood
S Louis Delmas
S John Wendling

Veldman just sprained his Achilles, and Wendling is dealing with a recent injury as well. Green and Greenwood are out because they are still getting back into the swing of things after missing a good deal of training camp. As for Delmas, well, I think you probably know the story by now. It's unlikely we will see him at all in the preseason because of his knee issues.

Patrick Edwards, by the way, is going to replace Johnson in the starting lineup, while Don Carey will take Delmas' spot at safety.
