The Detroit Lions were without wide receiver Calvin Johnson yet again when they practiced on Tuesday. Johnson missed last week's preseason game, and he's been sidelined from practice on a seemingly regular basis as of late because of a knee contusion. There's no word just yet on his status for this week's game against the New England Patriots, but Johnson is hoping to play.
Like Louis Delmas said yesterday, Calvin Johnson said he wants to play Thurs. He actually said he was playing. We'll see. #lionscamp— Tim Twentyman (@ttwentyman) August 20, 2013
Speaking of Louis Delmas, he was out on Tuesday, as were quarterback Shaun Hill, tight end Matt Veldman, defensive tackle John Drew and cornerback Ross Weaver. Delmas may want to make his preseason debut this week, but it seems unlikely at this point. I personally expect him to simply take part in warm-ups and then sit out the game.
In other injury news, it turns out that the Lions waived/injured linebacker Cory Greenwood because he needs season-ending shoulder surgery, according to The Canadian Press (via MLive). If that is indeed the case, then it's likely that the Lions will place Greenwood on injured reserve if he clears waivers.
