A little more than an hour before the 4 p.m. deadline, the Detroit Lions released tight ends Cameron Morrah and Matt Veldman. The pair of moves means they now have 75 players on their roster, putting them at the limit for this round of roster cuts.
Morrah just joined the Lions last week, so he didn't spend much time in Detroit. He was added as some extra depth at tight end shortly after Veldman suffered an injury, but that was really it.
Veldman was signed by the Lions back in June. He came to town after spending time with the Jacksonville Jaguars, which really led to him landing in Detroit. Former Jaguars tight ends coach Bobby Johnson currently holds that job with the Lions, and their familiarity likely led to Veldman signing with Detroit.
With these moves now out of the way, the Lions can turn their attention to getting their roster down to 53 players by 6 p.m. ET on Saturday.
