Lions roster cuts: Chris Greenwood released

The Detroit Lions' roster cuts continue with a fairly notable name: cornerback Chris Greenwood. Dave Birkett reports that the 2012 fifth-round pick has been let go as the Lions continue trimming their roster to get down to 53 players.

Greenwood finally made his NFL debut this month after spending all of the 2012 season on the PUP list after having abdominal surgery. He also missed the first part of training camp this year with an injury, which really put him at a disadvantage in the battle for a roster spot at cornerback.

Greenwood just hasn't come far enough to be deserving of a spot on the 53-man roster, and he will likely spend this season on the practice squad as a result. Of course, he has to clear waivers first, but will a team really take a chance on someone who hasn't shown an ability to stay healthy the last couple years? We'll find out in the next day or so.

This move means the Lions are now down to 71 players.
